An Introduction to Salted Paper Printing

An Introduction to Salted Paper Printing

$495.00
Dates

Salted Paper Printing was the very first silver based photographic printing method. Created in the 1830s, it is the basis of the albumen prints used extensively throughout the 19th century. It was pretty much the standard until Silver Gelatin was created. It produces a warm brownish tone print.

Salt paper is an excellent entry into the world of Alternative Photographic Printing. You’ll create a print from the ground up, starting with plain paper that you size and sensitize before exposing to a digital or film negative and processed. Except for a place to dry the sensitized paper, the entire process is performed in a “dim room,” no darkroom required.

We’ll cover
• History and origins of silver printing
• Paper choices and sizing options
• Using sea water
• Sensitizing, exposure and processing
• Toning and finishing options
• Additional customization

Material included

Duration:

Pre-Req: (Optional) Introduction to Digital Negatives

Courses are held at Down East Photography in downtown Ellsworth, Maine.
